Food Wise

Ebalti @ McArthur Central, Fortitude Valley

I come from a city which is famous for quite a few dishes including Biryanis, which ranks up on the top, for true Hyderabadis. While I have had my share of culinary delights, within India as well in some other parts of the world, this is a page for reviews of places that I’d recommend .

I was surprised (& delighted), to find someone showcase Hyderabadi Biryani as the focal point on their menu. So the next time you are in Fortitude Valley, do try out the ‘lamb biryani’ at Balti. As they are quite reasonable prices, I’d recommend trying a meal and for the fare served up in town, in this part of the world – Great food at a fantastic price = great value as a customer.

About questions of authenticity of the food and ingredients used, its an owner-operated enterprise and the lady is from Andhra, so without a doubt she has got her Biryani recipe right. However, they have modified the recipe to Western standards and controlled the spice levels without losing too much, which is quite acceptable given the target market is being introduced to the much loved Biryani.

  • If this biryani were to be served in Hyderabad, it would score a (5/10)
  • For this taste and value, Down Under in Brisbane, it scores a (8/10)

A year later, after much scouting for a ‘service and quality oriented’ caterer, I was back at square one with Sean Caterers.

While I was make decisions and finalising details for the wedding from Aus, I always had my doubts in performance slacking over a years’ time. With my doubts in tow, I made it for the final event. After a two hour meeting with Sean and his father (Mr. Stanley), my confidence soared. Not only was the event to my specific markings, but Sean went beyond the call of duty to ensure other details of the wedding were looked into as thoroughly as I would have myself. Happy, nay, delighted I was… Read more
